More than just exercises, it’s a magic potion for body and mind. Say goodbye to back pain and hello to strong, balanced muscles!
Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in the 19th century. He was often sick as a child, but this did not stop him from developing his passion for gymnastics, boxing and yoga.
During the First World War, interned in England, he creates his method using improvised equipment to help injured patients strengthen themselves. The Pilates method becomes a reality!
In 1926, he emigrates to New York and opens a Pilates studio which quickly becomes popular with dancers and athletes for its benefits in terms of strength, flexibility and posture.
Today, Pilates is world-renowned for its physical and mental benefits, remaining true to the principles of concentration, control, center, fluidity, precision and breathing defined by its creator.
By strengthening deep muscles, particularly those of the abdomen and back, Pilates helps develop a strong, balanced musculature.
This physical training method focuses on aligning the body and strengthening core muscles, which helps to correct poor posture.
What’s more, it’s a physical activity accessible to all levels and ages.
The movements also stretch muscles and improve joint mobility, increasing overall flexibility. Regular practice quickly makes you feel younger!
Do you ever find yourself confused about what to choose? Today, there are many disciplines to choose from, including yoga and Pilates, with some poses being similar. So then, how are they different?
One of the major differences between yoga and Pilates lies in the objectives of these two physical activities. Pilates is a fitness method designed to develop and strengthen deep muscles, improve posture and make joints more flexible.
A boost to regain awareness and control of your body!
Yoga on the other hand, originated in India, is a much older practice aimed at reconnecting with oneself. We learn to adjust our breathing, develop flexibility through postures, and relax and regain calm through meditation. A true harmonization of body and mind.
Both disciplines focus on breathing techniques, but often in different ways and with different objectives. You have to experience it to understand it!
And why not combine the best of both worlds by alternating these two disciplines?

Pilates is growing in interest and popularity worldwide. From fitness programs to rehabilitation, and even in the workplace.
The business world is still too often characterized by sedentary work. Prolonged sitting often leads to poor posture, circulatory problems and lack of muscle tone.
Slouching in front of a computer can also have many harmful consequences, such as the development of muscular imbalances and musculoskeletal injuries. Thus, it’s very important to find ways to alleviate this stress and move around more (see also our article about wellbeing at work).
The WHO Global Plan of Action for Physical Activity provides recommendations for this. In particular, it advocates policies that increase opportunities for physical activity at work.
Regular exercise is still one of the best ways to maintain good health. For an adult, the WHO recommends practicing:
Consider also professions that involve heavy lifting or standing in the same position for long periods. In such cases, muscle weakness and lack of body awareness can lead to physical overload or overcompensation. The result is acute or chronic physical damage. Areas in which Pilates has proven its effectiveness.
By integrating Pilates into the work routine, companies can create a healthier, more dynamic environment for their employees.
The more you practice, the more you feel the benefits in everyday life. Greater body awareness also enables you to notice and correct poor posture more quickly.
